The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new regulation to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). The GDPR has taken four years of preparation and debate and was finally approved by the EU Parliament on 14th April 2016.

Its enforcement date is 25th May 2018, and organizations will face heavy fines if they’re non-compliant by that time. This replaces the Data Protection Act 1998.
