Recycling continues to be a hot topic and most brands are trying to find more sustainable packaging or helping with recycling their hard-to-recycle at-home packaging. Some brands even offer rewards for recycling your empties but these schemes aren’t always well publicised. We’ve put together just a few that we know about and we think deserve to be shouted about more.
Boots
Boots, the UK’s leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer has recently started their own Recycle at Boots scheme. They say “We want to play our part in looking after the planet by making it easier to recycle items that might be difficult to recycle elsewhere. And we want to reward you for playing your part and making recycling part of your regime too”.
They’re offering £5 worth of Advantage Card points if you recycle at least five qualifying items, but you can, of course, take as much as you have.
It’s currently only available in selected larger stores and you need to register your interest online before taking your empties as well as be an Advantage Cardholder in order to claim your points. Your nearest participating store, the acceptance list and more information can be found on their website.
Apple
The technology giant offers a trade-in service for your old Apple products. Depending on model and condition, Apple offers store credit against your old eligible Apple products. The old devices will be refurbished to be resold or recycled if they’re unable to be fixed.
Apple will also recycle for free and like-for-like product regardless of brand and condition for free to turn old electricals into something new.
M·A·C
Makeup brand M·A·C say they share a commitment to the environment and as part of their Back To M·A·C recycling scheme, they will reward you with a free lipstick when you return six M·A·C primary package containers.

Marks & Spencer
M&S have teamed up with Oxfam to recycle textiles through their Shwopping partnership. Since it started in 2008, they have collected over 20 million items worth an estimated £16 million for Oxfam’s work.
In most M&S stores they have Shwop boxes for you to place your old clothes in (they don’t have to be from M&S). These items are then resold, reused or recycled and allow Oxfam to fund all sorts of vital projects around the world.
As well as Shwopping in M&S stores, you can also Shwop at Oxfam stores, if you have an item of M&S clothing, Oxfam will give you a £5 M&S clothing and home voucher to spend in-store.
