An opportunity arose for Simply Waste Solutions employees to visit Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, to see first-hand the amazing work that Shooting Star Children’s Hospices do and why our support and donations are so important.
To maintain their current level of care it costs £10 million a year and only 10% of that income comes from government funding, everyone at Simply Waste Solutions is so proud to support this charity and help them get the money they need.
This visit gave a real insight into how much the volunteers and staff care about the children and families that they have visit the hospice. It was incredible to see the amount of specialised bedrooms, family space, equipment and activities for the whole family to enjoy that they wouldn’t be able to otherwise. Some of the rooms are highly specialised such as the hydrotherapy pool that whole families can enjoy, and a sensory room that can relax and soothe children as well as providing a stimulating environment supporting non-verbal communication.
The garden is a fantastic outside place that is of course wheelchair accessible, the ground has been made from different materials to offer a sensory experience. There is a large spherical water feature that reflects the garden’s surroundings, giving children that can’t look up the chance to see the sky above them.
The level of support they offer also extends to home visits from healthcare professionals, bereavement care and so much more. They run numerous fundraisers throughout the year to support them, some of the ones running up to Christmas include a Santa Fun Run in Stains-Upon-Thames, a Santa Cycle through Richmond, several music concerts plus many others.
