This week marks road safety week, the UK’s biggest annual road safety event conducted by the road safety charity, Brake. It’s designed to get everyone learning about, shouting about and celebrating the amazing design-led solutions that allow us to get around in safe and healthy ways, each and every day.
Brake state that every 20 minutes, someone is killed or seriously injured on a British road and that each of these tragedies is preventable. Everybody’s safety is of utmost importance to us as a business, that’s why we invest heavily in technology and training to avoid accidents.
Telematics – All our trucks have full telematic recording software that records, speed, braking and GPS location. This is useful in many ways, it allows us to check how our drivers are behaving on the road and invest in further training if necessary and reward the top performers. This year by looking at our telematics report in-depth, we’ve increased fuel efficiency and increased road safety.
Drugs and Alcohol Training – We have introduced compulsory drugs and alcohol training to all driving staff to give detailed information with a practical element using visual impairment goggles on the dangers of being impaired whilst at work.
Road Safety Organisations – We belong to several road safety organisations including, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and Driving for Better Business. Being involved with road safety organisations has many benefits including access to their professional advice, guidance and network of like-minded safety-conscious businesses.
