1000 Companies to Inspire Europe is London Stock Exchange Groups’ celebration of some of the fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe.

LoCITY Champion

LoCITY is an industry-led programme that is helping the freight and fleet sector lead the way in improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions. It works with freight and fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure providers, procurers and other key stakeholders to increase the availability and uptake of low emission commercial vehicles. It also offers guidance, tools, training and support, and will be launching the LoCITY Fleet Advice Programme in 2017.

Simply Waste Solutions have recently received LoCITY Champion status, which means that we are actively involved in creating, shaping and implementing the LoCITY programme to help improve London’s air quality. In this programme, we’ve been involved in looking at alternative fuels, predominantly CNG gas-powered vehicles and the associated refuelling infrastructure. We have also been trialling electric vehicles recently as part of the programme.

To ensure that we remain an environmentally friendly company we are committed to utilizing any procurement initiatives at our disposal. Within the last 15 months, we have been able to reduce our transport-related emissions by almost 19% after employing a dedicated Training Academy Manager, Kevin Barcroft. Kevin introduced a successful training regime which has significantly reduced work-related road risks, improved our OCRS score and built the foundations to progress to a FORS Membership Silver Standard.

Our driving workforce have been trained with the new CPC LoCITY Driver course, which has increased their awareness of the surrounding environmental issues and has identified what is needed to combat them. We have recently introduced a very successful Driver of the Year event which rewards our most safe, fuel-efficient and legally compliant drivers. This event promotes the application of the LoCITY training and drive us towards the Silver FORS standard.

We look forward to furthering involvement with the programme to ensure that we are doing our part to help improve London’s air quality and reduce carbon emissions.

Fast 50 – 3rd place

The Fast 50 Award is sponsored and compiled by Catalyst Corporate Finance. For several years we have been entered into the CIWM Sustainability and resource awards for the Fast50 award. Fast 50 is awarded based on the fastest growing businesses within the UK Waste and Resource industry using accounts information submitted to Companies House.

We have been placed as finalists for the Fast 50 award since 2014, increasing our position each year from 8th to 4th and 3rd in 2016!

We hope that we continue to grow as a successful business, with the great efforts contributed from all our staff and the great relationships we have built with our customers.

Women in business

Our Commercial Director – Caroline Hughes-Miles has been nominated for a Woman in business award. Board Level & Senior executive of the year, this category is open to women at board or senior executive level who have made a significant difference to the role of women in business within and/or outside their organisation.

Simply Waste has been shortlisted for a number of prestigious industry awards including the National Recycling Awards and the Resource Revolutions Awards. Simply Cups, our paper cup recycling scheme, scooped the Waste and Recycling Project of the Year at the 2015 BusinessGreen Awards (pictured below: Peter Goodwin of Simply Cups receiving the BusinessGreen Award).

Simply cups has also been nominated for a host of other awards including the 2degrees Champions Awards, the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, the Footprint Awards, the Vendies, the Sustainability Leaders Awards and the CIWM Awards.
